Sales are brisk!

Of course it's all relative right? Of the first run of 50 games, I've sold or traded for services 30 games. So if you do the very complicated math that means I have 20 left. My next task is to figure out how many more I should make. I'm not sure I have room in my garage for 1000 game boxes. I'm looking for a box maker in the U.S. that can make the boxes at a price that is affordable. It seems most everything is made in China these days and I'd like to keep the money in America if I can. Right now the games cost $50. And that's about what it costs to make each game in a run of 50. If I can make 1000 games then the cost drops considerably and I can still make a profit and lower the cost of the game to around $40 to $45 and still keep it in a wood "shipping crate" box.

Cargo game photos

Here are a couple photos I had taken today by my photographer friend Rick Gayle. Rick is the best table top studio photographer I know. He's been shooting pictures for my graphic design projects off and on for the last 25 years.

One photo shows the wood "shipping crate" game box and most of the game contents. The other photo shows a sample game layout. Cargo uses four game board sections that can be arranged in limitless ways providing a new game experience every time.

Why we still love board games

Here's a link to an interesting article about board games. The article discusses the rise of the board game industry in Germany and the success of board games like Settlers of Catan. The article also considers the effect of computer gaming on traditional board games and comes to some interesting conclusions.

There's Gotta Be A Better Way

Someday I'm going to hire a big company to make all these games. In the meantime, I get to make them one cut at a time. Hopefully I can hire somebody before I cut off my finger. :)
